Task 3
Television commercials lost its relevance to the internet, which people didn't like because they have other things to do resulting in native advertising (looks like an article but it's really an advert).

Denotation
The advert begins with a close up of a young boy's face which is quite displeased. It then jumps to a long shot which also establishes the setting (mise en scene), a office in a house. Another technique used was an eyeliner match that introduces the little girl to the sequence. Movement such as panning and tilting the camera helped to produce the idea that the little girl was the boss, the camera also zooms into her face.
Sound/ music was used to convey the idea that by eating Haribos it will make you happy. The lyrics of the jingle are " kids and grown ups love it so, happy would with haribos". Throughout the ad there are many jump cuts, they start off quite fast pace then gradually slow down. At the end the ad we see a bit of animation, the teddy bear (logo) winks and smiles at the end.
The persuasive techniques which are used are humour, repetition, reward. The way in which they used humour by having a little girl intimidate a grown man (her father).
Connotation
The message which the advertises are trying to imply is that by buy haribos it will make you happy and bring your family closer together.
Most haribo ads include children so that they can reach a younger audience.

Media Broom Commercial
Denotation
During the advert we used a lot of long shots and mid shots which helped to show the actors body language, so that the audience could understand the emotions that the actors were feeling.
Also to show facial expression we used close up shots of the protagonist. Another technique was panning (when the camera is rotated from side to side).
In the beginning of the ad the music is quite sad, emotional and stereotypical because of the type of instruments used. Once the protagonist has mad a transition because she has the broom the music then switches to 'hard not life' from Annie. The persuasive techniques which were use were humour, vox pox, ethos, reward, and emotional appeal.
Connotation
The music in the beginning of the ad helps to evoke sympathy from the audience towards the protagonist and allows the audience to see from her point of view. The black and white effect also shows a contrast between moods and the type of environment she was in before she got her broom. The social/cultural context would be that it promotes anti bullying and happiness.
